A card to the floor…

There is an old saying in cartomancy, one that i heard my own grandma say countless times when a card would launch itself out of her hands while shuffling for a game of rummy, that a card to the floor comes to the door. The idea behind this saying is that there is a message so important in the current moment, and the universe so insistent on your hearing this message, that a card or cards will jump out of the deck to get your attention. These would be taken as an omen that something is about to happen, the benefit or detriment depending on the card.

This morning, as i sat waiting for the tea kettle, shuffling my cards for my morning meditation, the Queen of Spades, Amor #42, in the unfortunately named G*psy Witch playing card deck, shot out of the deck mid-shuffle, and i was reminded of this saying. This card promises love and affection, but is also a reminder to guard against letting desire to cloud our better judgement. Stay sharp like the Queen of Swords. Don’t fall for flattery.

My thoughts on this deck are too many for this post, but I am planning a full dive into it over the coming weeks. It is a gorgeous deck, and one that I use often, but the glaring problem of name remains. More to come on that problem, and my proposed solution. Watch this space.

Reading for Week 13: 3/23 to 3/29

Nine of Diamonds: #39- the Heart

Ace of Hearts, Reversed: #11- the Fox

Financial and material security is not enough at this time to alleviate anxiety the way we thought it would. The emotional needs are still not met, and cannot be met by physical objects or monetary achievement. What are you still missing?

Given the current pandemic, this comes off as having enough food, money, etc but still being unable to cope with the isolation. How can you still find ways to connect with friends and family while remaining healthy and maintaining social distance? Maybe electronic communications are still not enough. What are the other options?

There is advice to not give in to participating in unsafe situations regarding the Covid-19 virus out of loneliness or desperation. This will pass, and we must be emotionally strong. Spend time with yourself. Spend time with your phone and tv off.

Metaphysical: Don’t allow delays or seemingly slow progress to lead to apathy or relaxation on the matter. Stay alert. Stay focused. Stay ready. You have seen how apathy has hurt you in the past, so learn from it. If action cannot be taken now, work on getting possible actions ready to implement.

Practical: Financial hardships will lessen with new opportunities or promotions. New avenues of revenue might come from an old idea or process. What did you used to do to improve your finances?

Week 12: Mar 18- Mar 24

For this week, we have the Strength card. This card denotes that we will be called to exercise restraint this week, and plainly, show our strength. Control over how we react to any situation is really the only control we have in this world. Whatever comes our way this week, we can choose to handle it with poise, intelligence, and emotional maturity. It is easy to react and overreact. It takes strength to remain calm.
